Sandra Farias is a certified birth doula with DONA and prenatal certified yoga instructor with BLOOMA since 2015. Her doula training started at the Scarborough Health Network, the first formal, non-volunteer-based doula program in an Ontario hospital.
As part of her hands-on experience, she completed a full-year mentorship at Transitionings™ and became a HypnoBirthing practitioner (Mongan Method). As part of her immersion in childbirth, she joined the mentorship program Awakening the Village at the Centre for Growing Families. She has been trained in Spinning Babies, rebozo techniques, acupressure, TENS, and hydrotherapy. As a postpartum doula she completed trainings to support early breastfeeding, safe sleeping, and infant massage.
A resourceful prenatal educator, Sandra developed interactive online classes during the pandemic in English and Spanish, to continue supporting a whole spectrum of families in Toronto, providing virtually or in person workshops with evidence-based knowledge and information about the newborn’s microbiome and benefits of skin-to-skin, breastfeeding, chestfeeding and babywearing practices.
Having a child is a unique opportunity in a person´s life for growth, but fears and misinformation could be an obstacle. Having a doula is the best tool for transitioning this learning phase, staying well-informed about choices, and feeling empowered ahead of a lifetime journey.
Being a doula is not a job, it's a life commitment.
As a certified doula, I believe my learning continues seeing parents in action everyday, attending many births at home, the birth centre, or hospitals.
As a prenatal yoga practitioner I find the balance to help mothers physically and emotionally in their journeys.
In my learning curve, I have been extremely lucky to have the best mentors.
I am very thankful for their teachings and I continue learning every day.
